Kicker Studio, a small boutique design company specializing in digital and physical interfaces, is looking for a Senior Designer to join us in our mission to make technology speak human. Because a user interface should feel as natural as a conversation, Kicker has set out to create meaningful innovation that connects people with products that fit seamlessly into their daily lives.

With several exciting projects underway, we are looking for perpetually curious, creative, and inventive people to join our team and tackle problems not found anywhere else. The right designers will have experience across a broad spectrum of product design challenges and a targeted interest in creating natural interface using new technologies like touch, voice, and gesture. The right designers will adeptly explore and challenge problems from all angles looking for connections, expected and otherwise, to develop into solid-human focused products. Core Responsibilities

  • Develop research plans. Observe users and conduct interviews, ethnography and task analysis.
  • Turn research findings into design opportunities and constraints.
  • Frame questions from the user’s view point focusing on wants, needs and expectations.
  • Develop concepts, user scenarios and personas.
  • Refine ideas through sketching, storyboarding and rapid prototyping.
  • Conduct usability studies of existing interfaces and prototype designs.
  • Provide solid art direction for the development of Look & Feel. Bonus points for developing it yourself.
  • Collaborate with sensory designers to craft interface cues and feedback.
  • Create client-ready deliverables that communicate design thinking and facilitate decision making.
  • Document form and behavior and develop functional interaction specifications.
  • Travel if necessary.

Specific Requirements

  • Five to seven (5-7) years creating interfaces, applications, and digital or physical products, including professional services experience
  • Advanced use of tools of the trade such as Keynote, Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop
  • Experience leading client design workshops
  • Strong understanding of interaction design principles and best practices
  • Strong understanding of visual design and its impact on User Experience
  • Competent understanding of Brand
  • Understanding of wireless and mobile technologies, and design opportunities with emerging technology including touch, voice and gesture

This is a full-time contract to permanent position located San Francisco, CA with frequent client collaboration throughout the Bay Area.
