USB Scan Toaster

I’m loving this Scan Toaster by Sung Bae Chang, one of the finalists in the The Electrolux Design Lab contest to be held on October 9th in Zurich, showcasing possible appliances of the future. (Why not now?)

With the help of hot wires that rotate within a 30° radius, the USB toaster prints news, weather and snapshots onto slices of your morning toast.

What I love about it is that it takes a temporary piece of data (the weather forecast) and puts it on a temporary surface (the toast) at the time you need it (right before you leave the house). It’s an ambient device that blends into the behavior of the morning.

(It would be better as a wireless version, however.)
