Six Questions from Kicker: Ian Myles

Ian Myles is the founder and CEO of a new mobile stealth startup called meep. Prior to that, he was a VP at Astro Studios and Design Director at Motorola. As far back as 1989, he was advocating for environmentally considered design as part of O2, a collective of European designers. He’ll be speaking at Device Design Day, so we thought we’d ask him Six Questions.

The Function of Function Keys on Apple Keyboards

I recently upgraded my four-year old Macbook Pro to a new MBP, and one of the surprises waiting for me (aside from the larger trackpad and its button-less state), were the changes to the function keys. This is the row of keys at the top of the keyboard that are used for specific actions like controlling iTunes or system-wide settings like volume.
Apple made some curious design decisions that are worth examining.
