It would be difficult to name a more influential article written in the last 20 years in HCI or Interaction Design than the late Mark Weiser’s The Computer for the 21st Century. Starting with its now-infamous first sentence (“The most profound technologies are those that disappear.”), the article has had a profound impact on how we think about computers and, really, about the future itself.

Touchscreens Subverting Democracy One Vote at a Time

As someone who is a supporter of touchscreen technology and its uses (and voting machines would fall into the excellent use category, if done properly), the problems with touchscreen voting machines are cringeworthy. Basic, basic errors that could have, should have been detected months and months ago. Errors both from a technical and a usability standpoint.

Click and Move Added to Touchscreen Patterns

Instead of only being able to either Tap to Select/Activate or Slide to Move, now you can combine them. With these touchscreens you can Click and Move, effectively adding (at least) one new interaction design paradigm to work with.
